Praised for its student help

A CHILDREN'S charity has praised Edinburgh University for the support it gives to students who have been in care.

The Frank Buttle Trust quality mark is designed to recognise universities and other higher education institutions that work to help young people overcome the issues connected with being in care, which can affect their educational achievements.

Kathleen Hood, the university's widening participation manager, said: "Young people leaving care may find it daunting to consider going to university without the emotional and financial support that is normally provided by families."
