Parents' fury over CCTV surveillance

FURIOUS parents conducting a sit-in protest at a Glasgow primary have claimed the local authority are monitoring them with CCTV.

Cameras installed on nearby flats in Maryhill have been turned towards Wyndford primary to monitor who is entering the building, they say. The dozen parents have occupied the building since Saturday in protest at council plans to close 11 schools and nine nurseries.

Robert Brown, Glasgow MSP and the Liberal Democrats' justice spokesman, said: "This is a civil protest, not a criminal issue. It is completely unacceptable if the council have made use of CCTV cameras, put in place to protect the local community, to breach the civil liberties of members of that same community."

A council spokesman said: "This building has been occupied without our permission. "The protest is pointless and can make no difference as the school is closed and will stay closed."
