Legal move to allow Portobello school to go ahead

Edinburgh City Council is seeking a change in the law to allow controversial plans for a new school to go ahead.

The council has written to the Scottish Government seeking its support for a change to legislation currently delaying the construction of a new secondary school in Portobello Park.

Last month campaigners won an appeal to stop the council building the new Portobello High School.

Councillor Paul Godzik, education leader, said the council would now pursue a Private Act of Parliament to permit building on common good land.
