It’s back to school for police officers
A TEAM of dedicated police officers is being introduced into schools in Edinburgh in a bid to tackle crime, bullying and exclusion.
Eleven officers will cover all of the city’s 23 local authority secondary schools by April following the results of a successful pilot scheme launched in 2007.
Councillor Marilyne MacLaren, the city’s education leader, said: “This provides an opportunity for police officers to show a friendly face and build up positive and non-threatening relations with young people. As a result of the pilot, the police schools link officer is no longer viewed as threatening and harassing by youngsters, but as someone who is on their side.”
Chief Superintendent Gill Imery added: “Officers will split their time between schools, establishing relations and integrating with staff and pupils.”
