It all adds up to excellence: Calderglen School is celebrating a first-class award

FIRST-YEAR maths pupil Josh Kumar from Calderglen High School in East Kilbride proves to have the right answer.

The school yesterday became the first in Scotland to be evaluated as “excellent” under Curriculum for Excellence. Minister for learning Alasdair Allan praised Calderglen for its “outstanding achievement. An official report said “lessons are well-planned, move at a good pace and are appropriately challenging. Staff are skilful in adapting teaching approaches to suit individual learning needs.” Headteacher Tony McDaid said: “We are delighted with such a highly-positive report. It reflects the commitment and creative approaches which are pursued to achieve the very best.” Picture: Ian Rutherford
