Indefinite delay for new Elgin Academy
THE handover of the new £30 million Elgin Academy to Moray Council has been indefinitely delayed, it was revealed yesterday.
The council was expected to take possession of the new school next month, but Moray Council has now announced that the contractors will not be in a position to hand over the building on the scheduled date.
A spokesman for Moray Council said: “Parents have been informed of the delay. The hold-up is disappointing but is outwith the council’s control.
“We are not in a position at this stage to give a date for the handover or a date for staff and pupils moving into the new school.”
The current building, part of which is a five-storey tower block, dates from the late 1960s and will be demolished once its replacement is completed.

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 09:15 AMDates from the 60's? So what my house was built in 1926 and will last a lot longer yet. It seems only Council built buildings, be they homes and schools are Jerry built and need knocked down regularly.

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 01:41 AMThe existing building looks to be a tad taller than 5 storeys. It's 7 with a weather station on top..... (That's unused because of 'Elf & Safety and a prank when pupils threw a dummy off the roof and it smashed through a glass roof and caused the then librarian to collapse... :-)
