Hope blooms for evicted pupils
CHILDREN "evicted" from their allotment after council bosses deemed it unsightly have been offered a new plot.
Members of the Greendykes Organic Allotments project have invited the children from Summerside Kindergarten to use its community facilities after reading of their plight in the Evening News.
The children had been tending to their plot at Warriston allotments since nursery owner Carol-Anne McLeod secured a lease with the council after eight years on the waiting list.
Since Mrs McLeod was allocated the plot last March, they have grown potatoes, rhubarb, leeks, blackberries and rocket. But she was told on Hogmanay that the plot was to be re-let because she had failed to bring it up to an acceptable standard.
On learning about what happened, Mr Shields decided to offer the space at the Greendykes Organic Allotments to the children.
