Historic school's new head vows 'affordable education'
A NEW headmaster has been welcomed at Scotland's oldest independent school.
Peter Hogan has joined Loretto in Musselburgh, replacing Michael Mavor who retired after seven years.
Mr Hogan was the warden of Llandovery College in Wales for almost a decade.
He said: "I am committed to making an education at an independent school more affordable for more families.
"I aim to promote and defend the charitable status of independent schools by allowing families of limited means to benefit from the life-changing opportunities of a good education.
"The private education sector continues to lead the world in terms of the service we provide to children and their parents. This is demonstrated by our excellent results and facilities, first-class pastoral care, an imaginative curriculum and the ability to inspire confidence and a can-do attitude in all the children we teach.
"These will remain the hallmarks of our school. Loretto has a noble, historic past and I am sure (we'll] have an exciting future."
