High school consultation set to begin
A CONSULTATION is to be launched to get people's views on plans to replace Lasswade Community High School.
The consultation follows an announcement in September that Midlothian Council will receive Scottish Government funding towards a much-needed replacement building.
The Government will contribute around two-thirds of the total cost for the new school, with the council finding the rest.
Midlothian Council says this is an opportunity to review the community facilities in the area and consider whether to include them within this development, to be shared between the school and the community.
It is now seeking the views of the school and the wider community on what they would like to see included in the new development.
Councillor Peter Boyes, Midlothian's education leader, said: "At this stage we still do not know exactly what we will include in the new development at Lasswade.
"We will build the school in the playing fields of the existing school but there are currently no designs.
"We are considering building a 1,600-pupil capacity school.
"We want to provide Bonnyrigg and Lasswade with the best community facilities possible."
