Girls asked to join IT crowd

MORE than 30 Edinburgh schools took part in a campaign to encourage females to work in IT.

Women make up only 15 per cent of the IT workforce - a figure the funding partnership between the city council and the Royal Bank of Scotland aims to raise.

The event, held at the RBS HQ in Gogar, gave girls aged ten to 14 the chance to work with technology while concentrating on topics such as fashion.

The council's John Sowerby said: "The initiative brings business and education together in a positive and rewarding way."
