Education chiefs delay answer on restructure
EDUCATION chiefs are being accused of “struggling to answer” key questions about a massive management re-structure which is being introduced throughout the Capital’s secondary schools.
Members of the council’s education committee have been demanding details to back up claims that the shake-up – which has scrapped the role of principal teachers – has educational benefits, but are still waiting for the information months down the line.
Councillors were expecting a full report on the issue to be presented to them in time for an education committee meeting this week but have now been told the information has been delayed by a further two months.
This has sparked criticism amongst members, as well as claims that the delay is because education bosses do not have the figures to back up their argument.
Education leader Marilyne MacLaren said a report was set to go to the committee but she was not satisfied that it provided enough information.
She said: “This is nonsense politicking. Further information is being sought from local authority areas where the management structure is already in place. This will help produce a more comprehensive report.”

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 06:50 AMAll of our faculties are struggling due to lack of oversight and guidance with the non-specialist subjects. Simple errors of tone and administration are common. I fear an apocalypse with CfE...or a cover-up.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 05:03 PMJabba MacLaren - like the rest of the LibDem incompetents - was always good at handwringing and offering advice while sitting on the fence. Seems they're not so clever when they actually have to make decisions. Then their bullying, nanny-knows-best authoritarian streak comes out! Good Bluidy Riddance come May!

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 04:34 PMEDUCATION chiefs are being accused of “struggling to answer” key questions about a massive management re-structure......??? Who,What and Why is the next question. Its not Rocket Science what is going on at the education department that is run by a bunch of Space Cadets. They just want to outsource everything and anything that comes to mind. We can only hope that Cl liar McLaren does not pass her eleven plus at the forthcoming May election and she can apply for a resit in five years time. Outsorcing is a political quick fix which should only be used when cash flow is restricted for minimal periods of time. As soon as the services are outsourced you have no control of the runaway budgets nor any overhead recovery. For example on Monday 13th of February the Balerno CHS "After School Club" will be outsourced to a private provider. This will provide a loss of some £1200 per week to the Balerno CHS budgets as opposed to keeping it in house, but that does`nt matter a jot that they can throw this type of money away along with peoples jobs. Why because it looks good on paper. So does a fish supper, but to throw away £1200 per week, Thats the City of Edinburgh Council, Education Department for you, a council with duty of care?? .........dont care and nae brains?????

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 01:06 PMCEC education Dept not providing facts to back up policy- move along- nothing new here. The last 2 reports have contained nothing that Earthlings would describe as evidence base for the restructure. Interesting quote from CLLiar McLaren about politicking. All the other parties want is some solid evidence for the proposals which really ought to have been gathered by any competent department well over 8 months ago. McLaren admits as much in her second sentence which shows what a loose grasp of her brief she has. Good riddance when you go- the dept can only benefit from your departure.
