College signs up to mental health battle

A CITY college is to pledge its commitment to tackling discrimination against mental health.

Telford College will sign the "see me" anti-stigma pledge at a ceremony on Thursday.

By signing the pledge, the college's student services department is committing to providing extensive support for students suffering from mental health issues.

The college will be implementing a number of initiatives, from providing drop-in services and self-help courses, to ensuring "see me" – Scotland's mental health anti-stigma campaign – materials and other support is made readily available.

John Malone, Telford College's assistant principal, said: "We recognise our responsibility in providing high levels of support to all our students to ensure that the best learning opportunity is accessible to all.

"We hope that by signing this pledge we are demonstrating our commitment to mental health issues and our promise to support our students as best we can."
