City swimmers bring home 6 gold medals
FOUR swimmers with learning disabilities produced their best at the Special Olympics in Spain to bring home six gold medals to Edinburgh and Midlothian.
David Fergus, 22, and Mark Meadows, 17, from Edinburgh, and Scott Quin, 18, and Ian Yirrell, 18, of Midlothian, all from the Edinburgh and Lothians Special Olympics team, were chosen to represent the Great Britain swimming team competing in the Special Olympics in Castellon earlier this month.
They competed against 1000 swimmers from across Europe, bringing home five individual gold medals, two silver and a gold medal for the relay race.
Chair of the Edinburgh and Lothians Special Olympics team, Yvonne Anderson, said: "They were absolutely phenomenal. They swam their hearts out. They trained very very hard for this."
Next year's Special Olympics national games will be held in Leicester at the end of July.
