Charity selects professor to be economics guru

AN academic at Napier University has taken up a role with one of Scotland's best known charities.

Professor John Adams has been appointed as the economic policy adviser to Age Concern Scotland after completing project work for the organisation in 2008.

The economist produced a report on the impact on pensioners of alternative council tax scenarios in the context of potential local income tax reforms in May last year.

Professor Adams said: "I'm delighted to be undertaking this role on behalf of Age Concern Scotland.

"The organisation has never had an economic policy adviser, and when the role was discussed, I was more than happy to get involved.

"Our population is getting older and consequently the rights of the elderly are coming to the forefront."

The partnership will see Professor Adams and his colleagues from the School of Accounting, Economics and Statistics carrying out research projects for the charity, as well as offering advice on key aspects of its economic and social policy.

He will also liaise with the media and speak at forums with and on behalf of the charity.
