British girls left trailing boys at science
BOYS are significantly outperforming girls in science in the UK, research has found.
This gender gap is bigger in the UK than in any other developed country, the study, by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) concluded.
Researchers analysed the results of tests taken by about 20 million 15-year-olds in 57 participating OECD countries.
They found boys in the UK scored on average ten points higher in the science tests than girls. The OECD average was two points.
In Turkey, the opposite was the case, with girls outperforming boys in science by 12 points.
