Boroughmuir team are top consumers
A TEAM from Boroughmuir High beat off tough competition from schools across England, Scotland and Wales to become Young Consumers of the Year 2009.
The four boys were declared winners of the Trading Standards Institute competition, taking home the College of Fellows trophy, medals, 50 gift vouchers each, and 1,000 of multimedia equipment for their school.
Hundreds of schools nationwide entered to select Britain's best-informed young consumers.
The winning team was made up of Scott Duncan, 16, Malcolm Perry, 17, Cameron Roscoe, 16 and Ruaridh Beveridge, 16.
Ruaridh said: "We were one question away from being dropped off in the semi-finals, so we really had no confidence after that that we would win it.
"The questions were really tough as well in the final and it was a tight final.
"We can't believe we won."
Councillor Robert Aldridge, the city's environment leader, said: "I'm delighted that Boroughmuir have regained their title as Young Consumers of the Year – an achievement to be very proud of.
"(This] will give these pupils essential life skills as they prepare for the world of work and study."
