Adopters to get cash boost

MIDLOTHIAN Council is to introduce a new allowance scheme for people adopting children.

It is hoped that the scheme will make it easier to support and find adopters for children who are harder to place due to factors including age, ethnicity, and need for special care due to abuse or neglect.

Councillor Jack Aitchison, Midlothian's cabinet member with responsibility for social work and health, said: "This scheme further acknowledges that adopters are providing a valuable service."
