Adam Smith College chair will lead colleges' congress
THE chair of Adam Smith College in Fife, Graham Johnstone, has been elected to lead the Chairs' Congress for Scotland's Colleges.
Each college in Scotland is represented at the congress by the chair of its board of management or governors. It meets three times a year and aims to put the interests of Scottish colleges at the heart of public policy. It tackles issues such as the reputation of the college sector, funding, distribution of resources, governance and regulation.
Mr Johnstone is in his second term as chair of the Kirkcaldy-based college and sits on the Scottish Funding Council's knowledge transfer and employer engagement team.
Ray Harris, the acting chief executive of Scotland's Colleges, said: "Graham Johnstone brings with him a wealth of experience to this position, and we are delighted to welcome him."
He added: "Graham is assuming the role of chairman at a crucial time for Scotland's colleges, with recent economic developments reinforcing the importance of the further-education sector."
