160,000 pupils prepare for exam season
THOUSANDS of schoolchildren across Scotland are preparing for exams that get under way today.
About 160,000 students will sit exams ranging from Standard Grades to Advanced Highers over the next five weeks.
The tests will be taken in 550 examination centres throughout the country. When the final ones come to an end on Friday, 12 June, some 750,000 exams will have been completed.
Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) chief executive Dr Janet Brown said:
"I would like to thank the teaching staff and families across Scotland who have been giving the candidates strong support as they prepare for this key stage in their lives."
To help out over the busy period, SQA staff will be boosted by some 15,000 appointees who help to set, invigilate and mark nearly two million exam papers. Those sitting exams will receive their results on 5 August.
