Edinburgh - Glasgow rail service returning to normal after shed fire
RAILWAY services between Edinburgh and Glasgow are returning to normal following a fire at the side of the line in Bonnybridge.
A 200 metre exclusion zone was set up by emergency services this morning after a railway shed, believed to contain explosive gas canisters, caught fire.
The railway lines between Glasgow and Edinburgh and Falkirk Grahamston and Cumbernauld were closed along with two roads.
But the exclusion zone was removed after tests showed the shed did not contain either acetylene or propane, as originally thought.
A message on the ScotRail website advised passengers to expect disruption to some services until 12noon.
Fire and Rescue crews were called to the scene at Greenhill Road at 5.15am.
A Central Scotland police spokesman said: "Although the fire is still ongoing and fire crews remain on the scene, it has been confirmed that the canisters are not acetylene or propane and the exclusion area has now been lifted.
"This means that rail lines between Edinburgh and Glasgow and Falkirk and Croy (Cumbernauld) are now re-open. Local roads affected by closures are also being re-opened."
