PRINCES Street has re-opened after a piece of masonry fell 30 feet from a building to the street below.

• Police had sealed off throughfare between South Charlotte Street and Frederick Street

The stone fell off a Next branch on the city’s main thoroughfare at around 6.40am on Monday.

Police raced to the scene and immediately closed off the footpath and eastbound carriageway between South Charlotte Street and Frederick Street, which has also re-opened.

The road remained closed for over two hours as an inspection was carried out to make sure no more masonry is likely to fall to the street.
