Edinburgh news: Environment group helps pupils' project
AN environmental group is working with a city primary school on an outdoor education project.
Environmental education specialist Earth Calling has joined forces with Davidson's Mains Primary School on the new project designed to slot environmental education into the Curriculum For Excellence.
Sixty children will be working over the next five weeks in the woodland to map habitats and survey wildlife, learn new skills and techniques, and gather data.
New farmers' market ready for launch
A NEW farmers' market will be launched tomorrow in Juniper Green.
Organised by the community council, the market will be held in the car park of the Kinleith Arms on Lanark Road between 9am and 1pm.
The market will include everything from hand-reared pork, game and beef to vegetables, cup cakes and breads.
There will also be a woodturner and a soap stall offering some early ideas for Christmas presents.
Collection for Pakistan flood
SCOTLAND'S newest rotary club will be collecting for Pakistan flood relief at the Gyle Shopping Centre next weekend.
Rotarians from Edinburgh Park hope to buy a 700 Shelter Box from the donations during the fundraiser on October 2 and 3. The box contains life-saving apparatus.
Fitness centre plan for Leith
LEITHERS will have a new place to get in shape with plans for a new fitness centre.
Women-only fitness chain Curves has applied to turn the former Ocean Power Delivery offices, at 102 Commercial Street, into a fitness centre.
The chain already has two centres in the Capital.
Business start-up help
Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce is offering free workshops to help the over-50s start their own business or become self-employed.
The workshops will cover topics including ideas generation, e-marketing, tax and financial planning.
Online resources will also be provided.

Wide range of goods for shoppers
SHOPPERS are being invited to the Linlithgow Farmers' Market.
A wide range of goods is on offer, including organic meats, Scottish vegetables, venison, cheeses, crafts and handmade soaps. The market takes place on the fourth Saturday of the month, 10am-2pm.
