Edinburgh Fringe Festival: Waterboys frontman returns to capital

THE lead singer of The Waterboys will returning to his home city during the Fringe – for an intimate book reading in a church.

Mike Scott will be in conversation with crime writer Ian Rankin at St Cecilia’s Church in the Cowgate about the musician’s memoirs Adventures of a Waterboy.

The event on 23 August, tickets for which go on sale today after 9am, is being staged at the oldest purpose-built concert hall in Scotland, which also houses Edinburgh University’s collection of musical instruments.

A spokesman for organisers Regular Music said: “Mike’s devastatingly honest and beautifully crafted memoir describes the adventures of a rock ’n’ roll seeker in quest of musical frontiers; it is serious, funny, profound, whimsical, revealing and enigmatic.

“We follow his path through teenage punk bands, the success of The Waterboys and subsequent experiences in New York.”
