GEORGE Heriot’s FP

delivered a fitting tribute to Lindsay Stewart by

lifting the Sivewright Quaich for only the second time in the event’s history.

In a match played the day after the death of the club’s honorary president, Heriot’s beat M.C.B.A. by 5 and 4 over the double foursome in the final at Prestonfield.

Peter Williams and Graeme Greenhill were two up playing 17 against David Lorimer and Iain Clark while Graham Leslie and Alasdair Slessor were three up after 16 on David Clark and Bill Hutton. By coincidence, the referees were Jimmy Lamond and Bob Robertson, as was the case when Heriot’s won the event in 1999.

Blaney sixth

LIBERTON’S Anthony Blaney finished sixth and the leading Lothians player in this season’s Scottish Boys Order of Merit, won by St Andrean Ewan Scott.

Blaney played in 11 counting events, one less than Scott, and gained most of his points by finishing fifth in the Scottish Boys’ Stroke-Play Championship.

Tantallon’s Calum Hill finished 20th in the national standings, just above Lewis Bain from Turnhouse and

Alexander Wilson of The

Renaissance Club.

Family affair

THE Miller family just missed out on a notable double in their respective club championships in the Capital.

David claimed the Duddingston crown, defeating holder Gary Thomson after leading the qualifiers with an impressive eight-under-par total for 36 holes.

But dad Derek was pipped in his bid to land the Murrayfield title, losing at the 37th to David Marshall. Derek did, however, land the 36-hole stroke-play spoils a week later.

Drain men

A MAJOR drainage programme has been carried out at Deer Park to ensure that members and visitors can enjoy the

remainder of the season.

The work, which was undertaken by Greentech Sportsturf Ltd, entailed laying an extensive network of perforated pipes topped with gravel to significantly improve the drainage.

The contractors ensured minimum disruption by using the latest state-of-the-art equipment said general manager Kevin Mulcahy.
