EasyJet says it didn't ask for £1 charge
BUDGET airline easyJet has said it "didn't ask" for a drop-off charge at Edinburgh Airport, but today stopped short of criticising the plans.
Airport operator BAA has come in for criticism after announcing plans to introduce a 1 "kiss and fly" tax in the autumn for anyone dropping off passengers at the terminal.
Visiting Edinburgh to announce new routes to Cologne and Paphos, easyJet's regional general manager Paul Simmons said: "(The drop-off charge) is not something we asked for, but we understand why they're doing it.
"The drop-off area is not really fit for purpose at the moment.
"A drop-off charge was brought in at Luton Airport over a year ago and the reaction from the customers has been negligible."
The low-fare airline said flights to Paphos, in the southwest of Cyprus, will be available from November 3, running twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Meanwhile, flights to Germany's oldest city, Cologne, will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, starting from November 26.
