Earthquake fund hits £20k
THE Pakistani Earthquake Appeal, spearheaded by the Capital's Pakistan Society, has already raised more than £20,000.
The appeal was begun shortly after the devastating October 8 earthquake by Pakistani-born councillor for Mountcastle, Shami Khan.
The Pakistan Society is being aided by Streetwork UK, the Sangam Arts Academy and the city's Bangladeshi community, to help the people of Balakot in northern Pakistan.
The appeal aims to build a new school for the children of Balakot, where at least two were destroyed in the quake.
