A RUNAWAY eagle has been recaptured almost 72 hours after he first flew away from Edinburgh Zoo.
Keepers recovered eight-year-old Kousteau at about 9am yesterday after the bateleur eagle flew down to one of his specialist handlers.
It ended a standoff lasting almost 72 hours, with zoo staff having carried out a round-the-clock vigil watching for the animal since she first flew off during a live show on Saturday afternoon towards Corstorphine.
A rubber snake – used during the presentations to lure Kousteau – proved successful in enticing the majestic creature down from her lofty perch near Forrester High School.
The eagle had been sitting in trees and on lamp posts in the surrounding neighbourhood.
