Durrell's widow to talk at science festival
THE widow of the late naturalist Gerald Durrell will be appearing at the Edinburgh International Science Festival.
Lee Durrell, a conservationist and author, is a prized addition to the programme. She will describe the achievements of the animal sanctuary her husband started in Jersey 50 years ago, and examine what the future holds.
The widow of the author of the celebrated book My Family and Other Animals will be speaking on Saturday 11 April.
Mrs Durrell met her husband during one of his lecture tours in the United States, and they married in 1979. They wrote books and presented television series together, including Ark on the Move, The Amateur Naturalist and Durrell in Russia.
She has succeeded her husband, who died in 1995, as the honorary director of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust in Jersey. She will be speaking at the George Square Theatre as part of the Talking Science strand of the festival.
