Drug dealer who copied police files jailed and fined £1,250
A DRUG-dealing police worker caught with secret work documents at her home was jailed for over two years yesterday.
Laura Young copied crime files and police reports while working at Grampian Police headquarters in Aberdeen.
The 22-year-old even showed a confidential file to the person concerned in the report.
She also obtained a list of the names of 40 people arrested in connection with the force's Operation Lochnagar set up to get drug dealers off the streets.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard police became aware of their staff member's association with a known drug user. She was then caught selling cocaine to a woman at her then home in Moir Drive in Aberdeen.
Young was arrested and admitted supply of a Class A drug and committing a string of offences under the Data Protection Act.
Yesterday her lawyer, Steven Borthwick, said his client had a difficult upbringing and pleaded with the sheriff not to impose a custodial sentence.
However, Sheriff James Tierney told her: "I have given considerable attention to what has been said.
"Being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs is a serious offence. The supply of cocaine is the scourge of many communities.
"I've come to the view that there is no other appropriate disposal other than a custodial sentence."
Laura Young worked as a police custody and security officer for Grampian Police.
Young was fined a total of 1,250 for the data protection offences.
