Driving ban woman took car shopping

A WOMAN who went out Christmas shopping in her car just two months after being banned from driving showed a "blatant disregard of the law".

Anne Cunningham was rebuked by a sheriff yesterday when she appeared in court.

She was caught breaking the ban because police recognised her car and followed it.

They found out she had been banned for three years for drink-driving.

Cunningham, of Bathgate, West Lothian, appeared for sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court. She earlier pleaded guilty to driving in Bathgate whilst disqualified and with no insurance on December 21.

Glenn Fraser, defending, appealed to the court not to put Cunningham on an electronic tagging order because she often went swimming.

Sheriff Graeme Fleming QC told Cunningham: "This was quite a blatant disregard of the law. According to the report before me you went to do Christmas shopping."

He put Cunningham on probation for a year with a condition that she carried out 60 hours of unpaid work in the community. He also banned her from driving for five years.
