Drivers' road pricing doubt

ALMOST 90 per cent of drivers do not trust the Government to deliver a fair system of road pricing, a survey of 17,500 AA members showed today.

Although 42 per cent of those questioned supported the principle of pay-as-you-go pricing, 86 per cent did not think the Government would keep its word over reductions in fuel duty or road tax if road pricing was introduced.

AA president Edmund King said: "Road pricing is unnecessary on most roads, unpopular and difficult to implement socially, politically, financially and practically."
