Drive aims to cut Hep C cases
A HEALTH drive has been launched to reduce the number of people contracting hepatitis C.
Every year 200 more cases emerge, and NHS Lothian wants to reduce the risk of infection.
The new Hepatitis C Managed Care Network is a partnership between NHS Lothian and the Scottish Prison Service to coincide with World Hepatitis C Day.
Lead clinician Dr Ewen Stewart said: "Hep C is a preventable disease but we are concerned that some people are still not protecting themselves from a disease which can cause substantial damage to the liver.
"In particular we are aware that some drug users who inject drugs are still sharing injecting equipment, leaving themselves vulnerable to the disease."
