'Don't forget older drinkers'

PEOPLE who develop alcohol problems in later life should not be forgotten, say experts, as a new blitz on drinking among younger people swings into action.

That was the message from academics at Queen Margaret University, who said the growing elderly population risk being neglected if too much attention is paid to youngsters.

Yvonne Coull, director of the QMU's older person's agenda, said: "Alcohol can easily become part of the daily routine and it can be difficult to give up. There may be less pressure to give up drinking than for a younger person."
