Dogged action

Have your say

It IS shocking that guide dogs are being attacked by dogs whose owners are obviously not fit for purpose (your report, 7 September).

The Scottish Government intends to adopt Westminster’s dangerous dog legislation. Why did it not act sooner, in response to the numerous dog attacks on children, adults and other dogs?

It is well-documented that many owners let their animals out in the morning to roam, to foul, to terrify children in play areas and to stray on to roads. These problems could be reduced by insisting that those who wish to live in local authority or housing association property do not keep dogs. This, coupled with insisting that dogs are kept on the leash in town, would be a quick way to tackle the problem as opposed to costly micro-
chipping and dog licences.
