Doctor completes run from Scotland to Sahara
A DOCTOR has completed a 2,664-mile run from Scotland to the Sahara Desert.
Andy Murray ran the equivalent of 100 marathons non-stop in just 78 days in the charity challenge.
The 30-year-old had planned to take 85 days without a break to complete the epic journey after leaving John o'Groats on 8 November.
He arrived at his finishing point in Morocco in sweltering temperatures of 35C on Monday evening a week ahead of schedule.
Originally from Aberdeen Dr Murray - who has worked as a locum in Galashiels and Hawick but is currently based in Edinburgh - has been aiming to raise 100,000 for the Yamaa Trust, a charity set up aimed at eradicating poverty in the South Gobi region of Mongolia.
At the finishing line he said: "I couldn't be happier. It is just a feeling of jubilation. Everything has been so sore but it is so awesome that it's well worth it. My next challenge is to find a beer tonight, I think I deserve one."
Dr Murray turning his thoughts to his wedding to fiance Jennie Reeves, 31, in February added: "She has already banned running from the honeymoon."
