Disabled driver spared jail
A DISABLED teenager who caused a fireball crash, in which a young woman was left paralysed, narrowly escaped being sent to jail yesterday.
Wheelchair user Lee Stuart, 19, and his passenger Danielle O’Connor were dragged to safety from his blazing Vauxhall after the smash with a Skoda, which contained triplets aged seven.
Stuart caused the accident by driving dangerously and at speed on the Inverness to Beauly road. Ms O’Connor was left paralysed from the waist down.
She left the court in tears after Stuart escaped with community service and a lengthy ban, but she refused to comment.
The accident took place on 16 February last year. Depute fiscal Heather Swan said Stuart’s rear wheel had clipped the verge after he overtook two vehicles and he lost control.
