Diners prefer Scottish water to Italian option

ITALIAN students asked to choose between Scottish water and Italian water have picked the Scottish option during a recent blind taste test in Edinburgh.

The Capital's Vittoria Italian restaurants, situated on Leith Walk and George IV Bridge, have been running a poll to see what customers prefer – Scottish water or Acqua Panna – with the losing drink being banned from the restaurants.

In the blind taste test, 80 per cent of the 40 people surveyed over an Edinburgh lunchtime chose the Scottish water over the Acqua Panna.

Italian student Francesco Cannossa, 21, thought the Scottish water tasted better in the blind taste test.

When the result was revealed to him, he said: "That is impossible. The first water I tasted was the best – it had to be the Italian one."

The final decision about which water gets the chop will be made this week.
