Digging for progress

Joyce McMillan's stance against the Edinburgh tram system (Opinion, 26 April) appears to focus on concerns about some of the city's streets being dug up.

If all opposition was linked to streets being dug up, progress would be delayed, vital electricity, gas and water supplies would be restricted and civilisation as we know it would not move forward.

True, the streets of Edinburgh may take their turn in being dug up today, but tomorrow they will be able to boast a tram network worthy of the praise as being one of the best in Europe.
