Diary: A first time for everything
Cathy Jamieson, still the MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley and the newly elected MP for Kilmarnock and Loudoun, was yesterday coming to terms with voting for the winning leadership candidate for the first time in her political life, apart from times when there was just one candidate.
It must have been the shock of it which led to her hairdryer going bang in the morning.
Off the cuff remark is a smart move
The expenses scandal left political parties with a battered image, which must be why at the cuffsandco store in the exhibition area the most popular cuff links on sale were "trust me" coupled with "I'm a politician".
Burnham sets his sights on new goal
Andy Burnham led Labour to an amazing comeback victory yesterday. After losing out in the leaderership race, he scored as a Labour side came from 2-0 down to beat a team of political journalists 5-3 at football.
Mystery of 7,000 missing members
LABOUR boasted of 20,000 Scottish members, but only 13,000 could vote for the leader. Who were the other 7,000, asked the SNP. Students in Young Labour and the Labour Club in Scotland, unaffiliated to UK Labour so no votes for them.
Police end up as tour guides
The security at the conference led to some confusion among delegates. Much of this involved trying to get into the conference centre. This led one police officer to grumble: "I thought we were here for security. I seem to be more of a tour guide."
