Diane is one in million for cancer charity
A CANCER survivor has accepted a £1 million cheque on behalf of Cancer Research UK at a city supermarket.
Diane Callaghan, 39, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2000 and puts her recovery down to work carried out by the charity.
Yesterday she went to the Morrisons store on Ferry Road to accept the money the company has raised for the organisation.
The city woman said: "I always went for regular tests, and nothing wrong was revealed, but on one visit my doctor discovered something out of the ordinary. The next day I received the devastating diagnosis I had cervical cancer."
Thanks to prompt treatment, she was able to win her battle.
"Everything seemed to happen so quickly," Ms Callaghan said. "The treatment made me very sick, but thankfully it was a complete success and I have been cancer free ever since.
"Without speedy treatment my story might have been very different, but I am still here and it is an honour to represent Cancer Research UK, and all cancer patients who have benefited from research, to receive this 1m gift and say thank you on their behalf to everyone at Morrisons."
