Diana and Actaeon start spell down south
TITIAN'S Diana and Actaeon, a fixture of the National Galleries of Scotland for 60 years, goes on show in the National Gallery in London for eight months from tomorrow.
The picture was bought for the nation this February, with the 50 million price shared between the two institutions.
Formerly on long-term loan to the NGS from the Duke of Sutherland's family, it will now be shared between them, returning to Edinburgh in May.
Fundraising is under way to find another 50 million to buy its sister painting, Diana and Calisto, also in the Sutherland collection and still on loan in Edinburgh.
The empty space left by Diana and Actaeon at the National Gallery of Scotland on the Mound will be filled by a replica of one of Giovanni Bellini's great works, The Feast of the Gods.
