POLICE have said that Irish Republican terror suspects held this week will be detained for an extended period to allow further questioning.
A number of individuals, suspected to be dissident Republicans, were arrested at various locations on Wednesday under section 41 of the Terrorism Act (2000).
Under the legislation, police are allowed to hold suspects without a warrant for at least 48 hours, but can apply to keep them in custody beyond that period of time.
A spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland has been granted a period of extended detention in respect of the individuals arrested on 23 October, 2013.”
Those arrested are believed to be held at Glasgow’s high-security Govan Police Station on the south of the city.
