Demo targets Leith biomass plan
CAMPAIGNERS fighting plans for a biomass plant at Leith Docks are to protest at New Kirkgate Shopping Centre tomorrow.
They will hand out leaflets to shoppers in a bid to raise awareness about the plant which energy bosses say could provide more than half the city's electricity.
Those opposed to the project claim residents are largely unaware of the plans - which include a 120-metre-high chimney - and say it would blight development and add to pollution in the city.
Edinburgh East Labour MP Sheila Gilmore, who will join the protest, said: 'Any biomass plant will trash plans to regenerate Leith and the docks area.
