A SCOTTISH jihadi reported to have been killed fighting for the Islamic State in Iraq is still alive, according to his best friend.

Abdul Rakib Amin, 26, who spent time in Aberdeen, shocked his friend by answering his phone from a terrorist-run Syrian base, weeks after authorities confirmed his death.

Yesterday his friend, who asked not to be named, said: “I spoke to Rakib on the phone. He just said he was fighting for the sake of Allah. I know he’s been brainwashed, but when I speak to him on the phone it’s like nothing has changed.”

The Foreign Office said Amin was still confirmed as dead. Security services had been informed of the phone call.
