POLICE said today there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body near the city bypass.

Officers were called to the scene at Sheriffhall at around 3pm yesterday, after the man’s body was found under a tarpaulin by railway workers carrying out maintenance.

The area near the A720 city bypass was closed off as forensic officers carried out their initial investigations.

It is understood the man is believed to have been a rough sleeper, who passed away of natural causes.

A police spokesman said: “Police in Midlothian responded to a field adjacent to the Edinburgh City Bypass, between Sheriffhall and Oldcraighall at around 3pm following the discovery of a 45-year-old man’s body.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
