Might I plead – on behalf of, I am sure, many readers of your columns – that you declare this Saturday a day of rest.
A rest, that is, from the deluge of political correspondence from your faithful army of obsessives and paranoiacs we have suffered over many months.
For just one day, should you not have enough letters on non-political topics? Blank spaces could be left, perhaps decorated with smiley-face emoticons – in black and white, of course, to avoid accusations of political bias.
A more drastic, but attractive, policy might be to ban letters from anyone who has had more than one published since the referendum.
The ban could last for a period of 12 months or even until the Scottish Parliament passes an act to hold another referendum on independence.
