Dawe hails pupils' pass rates

CITY leader Jenny Dawe today passed on her congratulations to Edinburgh's school pupils in the wake of this month's exam results.

The overall pass rate for Standard Grades hit 98 per cent and the number of Higher passes in S5 increased by more than 250 over last year, with a two per cent rise in pupils gaining three or more Highers. The number of pupils gaining five or more A passes also increased.

Cllr Dawe said: "There is more to good schooling than exam results, but I am delighted that Edinburgh is continuing to maintain a good performance in examination results and that Higher pass rates have continued to increase.

"I would like to pass on my congratulations to all the young people in Edinburgh for their individual achievements and to their teachers for helping them to fulfil their potential."
