Cyclists to get safety advice from police

CYCLISTS are being given safety advice in the Meadows by police in a bid to cut down on the number of road collisions involving bike users.

The one-day initiative was due to start today in Middle Meadow Walk, where officers were set to stop cyclists not wearing protective helmets or high-visibility clothing to highlight the dangers.

The blitz was set to be followed in the afternoon by patrols in known collision "hot spots", where cyclists are considered to be most vulnerable.

The number of casualties from road collisions in the Capital has been reduced overall, but there has been no reduction in casualties where bicycles are involved.
