Crumbling high school to be rebuilt

A NEW high school is set to be built in the Lothians to replace a rundown building which costs £2 million a year to maintain.

Midlothian Council chiefs have given the green light to the proposals calling for a replacement to be built for Lasswade High School in Penicuik, Midlothian, on the site of the original building in Eskdale Drive.

A community library, as well as new educational and leisure facilities, are also part of the plans.

The new high school is also set to receive a 25-metre, six-lane competition swimming pool.

The crumbling school building at Lasswade has not been refurbished for half a century.

Lasswade High was last year named among the first 14 secondary schools to benefit from the Scottish Government's 1.25 billion school building programme.
