Criminal inquiry
Allan Massie (Opinion, 22 December) makes a good case for Tony Blair not to be prosecuted as a war criminal. Mr Blair is not a war criminal; he is a political criminal. I have never forgotten the revealing words he delivered to parliament: "I may be wrong, but I believe I am right." In other words, he had doubts, but he was determined to go ahead with it.
How can political guesswork be the excuse for war? If he knew (having read the latest intelligence offerings) there was a possibility of being wrong, why did he send in our troops?
I do hope that the Chilcot inquiry can momentarily shake off its avuncular mood and put this point to him.
